About the collection

Provenance & Valuation

A note on where these works come from, how the estimate ranges were prepared, and what they do — and do not — mean.

The collection

These works come from the private collection of Daryl and Reid Fujita of Hawai‘i. The collection is offered for private sale, piece by piece, by direct inquiry — not through any auction house or online checkout.

Provenance

For the works where it is recorded, the valuation document lists provenance as Joji Wago. Provenance details for an individual piece can be discussed directly with Daryl Fujita.

The 2021 valuation

The collection was reviewed in a 2021 valuation document prepared by Sotheby’s from photographic evidence. The estimate ranges shown throughout this site are drawn from that document. They are shown in British pounds (GBP) because the valuation was prepared in GBP.

What the estimates mean

Estimate ranges are statements of opinion, not fixed sale prices, offers, or guarantees of value. They are not an authentication and not an endorsement. Values can change with condition, market timing, first-hand inspection, further provenance research, and buyer interest.

The Joji Wago connection

The collection traces to Joji Wago. Two pieces from the family’s records speak to his direct connection with the potters of this circle: a photograph of Mr. Wago seated with Hamada Shoji, and a book inscribed to him by the English potter Bernard Leach in 1966.
